Toffees tie so sweet for Wood
The players and supporters of Boreham Wood are still pinching themselves this morning after a memorable 1-0 victory at Bournemouth in the FA Cup set up a fifth round tie with Premier League Everton.
The celebrations have continued long into this morning, and probably explains why manager Luke Garrard was so bleary-eyed for his interview on Sky Sports News.
Still, a lack of sleep couldn't detract from his delight and good humour when asked a very simple question - can his Boreham Wood side beat Everton in the next round?
No. I’ve had managers text me today telling me to get the bricklayers in the team to build a wall in front of the goal. It’s going to be tough, but the thought of playing in front of 40,000 people and running out to Z-Cars has the hairs standing up on the back of my neck. It’s a massive tie, they’ve won the cup five times!

The FA Cup fourth-round fixtures have been completed and we are now ready for the fifth round!
Liverpool punched their ticket to the Last-16 after beating Cardiff City 3-1 at Anfield. Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino and Harvey Elliott were all on target for the Reds, whereas Rubin Colwill put the Bluebirds on the scoreboard.
However, it was Nottingham Forest and Boreham who made headlines as they provided some major shockers.
Forest eliminated cup holders Leicester, just after eliminating the competition’s most successful team Arsenal.
Nottingham beat the Foxes 4-1 with goals by Philip Zinckernagel, Brennan Johnson, Joe Worrall and Djed Spence.
The visitors got one in with Kelechi Iheanacho but that wasn’t enough to defend their crown at The City Ground.
And non-league side Boreham defeated Bournemouth 1-0 thanks to Mark Ricketts’ winner to earn a historic qualification.
The FA Cup’s fifth round draw was completed yesterday and here are the upcoming pairings:
- Crystal Palace vs Stoke City
- Luton Town vs Chelsea
- Peterborough vs Man City
- Liverpool vs Norwich City
- Southampton vs West Ham
- Middlesbrough vs Tottenham
- Nottingham Forest vs Huddersfield
- Everton vs Boreham Wood
Boreham manager reacts
Boreham manager Luke Garrard feels like he's "on top of the world" after his team's shock FA Cup victory over Bournemouth.
Garrard told ITV: "I am in tatters. I am on top of the world, the emotions at the minute are incredible.
"We rode our luck. I tell my boy every Sunday to be a good team player. That is what we did. I am going to get emotional, they are unbelievable these boys.
"To a man, staff, people in the boardroom that is for them. It was the last 10 for me, the headers.
"It is just amazing. I thought they were going to hit us for eight, this hasn't registered with me at all.
"I love Frank [Lampard], Ashley Cole (Everton coach) is the best left-back Arsenal ever had. To be able to pit my wits against them, it hasn't sunk in yet.
"I was buzzing when we scored the goal and I would have been content to lose 3-1 but to do that was just incredible"
