Game of Thrones Emilia Clarke had to step in to defend Nathalie Emmanuel after crude jibes about

THE bond between Daenerys Targaryen and Missandei took a tragic turn in the final season of Game of Thrones.

The silver-haired warmonger, played by Emilia Clarke, burned King's Landing to ashes after Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) decapitated Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) on the city gates.

The pair had always had each other's back and the brutal execution ultimately drove Daenerys to ignore the capital's surrender after she breached their defences.

Well, it turns out the pair also stood by each other when out of character.

Emmanuel has revealed that Clarke stepped in to defend her on set after some unsavoury comments about her revealing costumes.

"[Emilia] and I always looked out for each other - if you’re the only girls on a male-dominated set, it bonds you in a certain way," she told Vogue.

She continued: "For example, in my first season, my costume was pretty revealing, and there was an incident with a supporting actor who made a comment about it on set – I mean, typical – and Emilia straightaway had my back."

She emphasised that "it got handled," so something tells us Clarke didn't mince her words.

Elsewhere she reflected on Missandei's brutal death and the fact that she never got her happily ever after with lover Grey Worm.

She reflected on the backlash from fans and perhaps most significantly. by 13th director Ava Duvernay.

"So… the one and only sister on the whole epic, years-long series? That’s what you wanna do? Okay," Ava raged at the time.

Emmanuel said of the reaction: "It definitely caused me to reflect a lot more – about race and diversity more generally."

She concluded: "At the end of the day, if there’s ever a show on the level of Game of Thrones again, representation has to be part of the conversation from the beginning.

"That way, there’s no single person who has to represent every other person of colour."

The comments come after Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon kicked off the casting process.

The show will track and rise of the Targaryen dynasty, culminating in the civil war knows as Dance of the Dragons.

All seasons of Game of Thrones are available to stream on NOW TV.
