Horsforth stabbing: Boy, 15, dies after being knifed outside school as cops launch murder probe and

A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has died after being stabbed outside a school - with murder cops arresting a teen over the tragedy.

Officers raced to the scene outside Horsforth School in Horsforth, Leeds at just before 3pm this afternoon.

Cops discovered a 15-year-old boy, who has been locally named as Alfie Lewis, seriously injured in the horror attack and he was rushed to hospital.

It has now tragically been confirmed the young lad, and former student of Horsforth School, has since died after the attack.

Police cordons are still in place around the area, and around 200 people have gathered to hold a candlelight vigil for Alfie tonight.

Flowers have been laid on Broadgate Lane and groups of emotional youngsters were seen consoling each other.

Fireworks were also set off as part of the heartbreaking gathering.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they have arrested a teen boy as they launch a murder probe.

A spokesperson from the force confirmed they had been called to the Town Street area in Horsforth after reports a teen had been "assaulted and seriously injured".

They added: "Emergency services attended and a 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition. It was later confirmed that he had died.

"Police cordons are in place in the area while forensic examinations take place. A teenage male has been arrested in connection with the incident. 

"The victim’s family have been informed."

Tributes have now been paid to the tragic teen, with one pal writing on social media: "You were a kind and caring young boy with so much to give.

"I don't know if you realised how many friends you had and how many people care about you but they were out in force for you tonight laying flowers and lighting candles for you at your bench.

"Sleep tight little one."

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson said: “Our investigation is at an early stage and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish exactly what led to this needless loss of a young man’s life. 

“We understand the immense impact and huge shock a tragic incident of this nature will will have on the community locally.  

“Our neighbourhood police team are working with partners, including schools in the area to offer support and reassurance. 

“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses and are keen to hear from anyone who has information about the incident.” 

In a statement to parents, Horsforth School, headteacher Paul Bell said earlier today: “You will be aware of a distressing incident in the community today involving a former student who was stabbed on St Margaret’s Avenue. 

“The police are aware and are working with the school.
