Jack Larson Dies; Original Jimmy Olsen on Superman Was 87

Jack Larson – the actor best known for playing Jimmy Olsen on the original Superman television series – has passed away at the age of 87.

Larson originated the role of the young Daily Planet photographer and eager Superman sidekick on The Adventures of Superman, which starred George Reeves in the title role and ran from 1952 to 1958.

For the most part, Larson quit acting after the series concluded, but he remained active show business until his death, most notably as a playwright and stage producer.

Larson gamely reprised his signature role in projects ranging from an American Express commercial starring Jerry Seinfeld to a 1996 episode of Lois & Clark.

Larson was the partner of legendary actor Montgomery Clift until the time of Clift’s premature death in 1966.

He went on to form a relationship with famed director and TV pioneer James Bridges that lasted until Bridges’ death in 1993.

In a statement issued to several media outlets, family members stated that Larson passed away quietly at his Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.

No cause of death was given. Tributes from fans and former co-stars have already made Larson a trending topic on social media.
