Lottery warning to check tickets for a $1 million prize as the one-year deadline is nearly up

ONE lucky lottery winner is sitting on a million dollar ticket with a fast approaching deadline.

A lottery Powerball ticket worth $1 million is set to expire soon in Pennsylvania.

THE GOLDEN TICKET

The unclaimed ticket worth $1 million was sold for the drawing on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

And in nearly a month — exactly one year later — it's set to expire on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

A prize claim must be filed with the Pennsylvania Lottery either by mail or at a lottery area office by this date.

The winning ticket was sold at East Roadrunner on 199 Germantown Pike in Plymouth Meeting.

The ticket matched five of the five white balls drawn.

The lucky numbers to win $1 million are 2-8-15-19 and 58.

Under state law, all unclaimed and expired lottery prizes remain in the Lottery Fund and are used to support programs that benefit older Pennsylvania residents.

Players who think they have a winning ticket should sign the back of the ticket, call the Pennsylvania Lottery at 1-800-692-7481, and file a claim at any of the Lottery’s seven area offices across the state.

POWERBALL POINTERS

The U.S. Sun previously spoke to a lawyer about playing the Powerball game right.

John M. Phillips, a lawyer at Phillips, Hunt, Walker & Hanna advised players to stake their claim to their winning ticket immediately, as "possession is often the primary consideration."

Helpful tips include putting the ticket in a fireproof place as well as never showing its barcode.

Players should also sign and lay claim immediately if they believe they've won.

And it's important to also seek legal advice to avoid tax issues.

Before playing, it's also a good idea to check if your state allows anonymous claims.

Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina allow winners to remain anonymous.

Winners should also prioritize protecting their new cash and setting up particular trusts.
