Mortified mum warns you should regularly vacuum your mattress after sharing photo of her grim fil

A WOMAN was left "mortified" after she vacuumed her mattress for the first time in five years - and found a mountain of dirt lurking inside it.

The unnamed woman confessed she'd never thought of running a vacuum over her mattress, but had been inspired after seeing it online.

She decided to use her Hoover Challenger on her bed for the first time in five years, and was horrified with the results.

She shared a photo of the filter, which is filled with dust, dirt and hair.

Posting photos online, she said: "I got the strangest look for vacuuming the mattress.

"Don't think he'll look at me like that again next time I do it. Absolutely mortified."

She shared the photos on Facebook group Mum's Who Clean, adding she previously used a mattress protector, but had taken it off as it was more comfortable.

But after her dirty discovery, she confirmed it was going back on the bed.

She added: "Before joining MWC [Mum's Who Clean] I don't think I would've ever thought to do it.

"Another tip off this group to add to my cleaning routine."

Sharing her method with others, she confirmed she used her Hoover Challenger 3011 CD1006 with no attachments for around five minutes.

Others have vowed to vacuum their mattress after her horrifying discovery, with one person writing online: "Holey moley! I've never vacuumed my mattress. Maybe I will."

Another said: "Neither have I, I'm scared to now. It amazes me how much dirt our bodies produce," Mail Online reported.

Step-by-step instructions to clean your mattress

  • Remove all bed linen, mattress protectors and pillows
  • Vacuum the mattress with a clean attachment
  • Sprinkle baking soda on the mattress and let it sit for 30 minutes
  • Vacuum the mattress once again
  • And a third wrote: "Are you honestly saying this came out of your mattress after you vacuumed it? If yes then oh my gosh."

If you're inspired to vacuum your own mattress, Cleanipedia recommends sprinkling baking soda on the surface of your mattress, as it acts as a natural deodoriser.

Leave for 30 minutes, and then use a clean hoover attachment to suck up any filth.
